A fantastic relaxing break

We went to France for our friends wedding which was in a nearby village.
The gite was a fantastic setting for any group holiday to suit
people of all ages. The gite itself was rennovated in a very tasteful
manner, modern touches while retaining original features of the old
barn. Pool, table tennis, badminton.....what more do you need.
David (the owner) was so friendly and provided a wealth of
information on the local area......you can leave the Lonely Planet
behind when hes around! There is a lot to see in and do in the area, and
you could spend every day sightseeing, but the Gite, the pool and the
grounds meant we liked to spend a lot of time just relaxing there.
The Gite is not far from Souilliac and some other larger villages,
but is set in a secluded spot so you feel detached enough to be relaxed
without feeling isolated.
The Gite was very clean and tidy, light and airy but with
traditional country charm. And the donkeys are lovely and (mostly!)
friendly.
All in all an excelent holiday was had by all. HIghly reccomended.

We had a wonderful week in Loupiac. We arrived concerned as the
price seemed so reasonable could it really be as good as the photos but
we were not disappointed. The setting is lovely, surrounded in
country-side on the outskirts of the small village of Loupiac. The
local boulangerie is only 10 minutes drive for morning croissants and
the small town of Soulliac is 20 minutes, easy drive, for larger
supermarkets and more restaurants. Accommodation was as described.
Clean and finished to a very high quality. David could not be more
accommodating and helpful without being intrusive. The house is 4 or 2
or 6 bedrooms depending what you need. We originally booked the 2
bedroom gite but due to circumstances needed larger and were lucky that
David could accommodate our change, and at a very reasonable price. The
donkeys became our friends, the peace and clear starlit skies were
missed when we returned home. I would certainly return again to Loupiac
and to this accommodation and would recommend to anyone wanting peace
and tranquility with access to all that the Dordogne offers. Only one
word of warning in the 4 bed gite, the staircase is original, old and
steep so agility is required and if you are 6 foot or over a bent head
to avoid banging it on low beams becomes normal.

We really enjoyed our holiday, the Gite was wonderful, with
practically everything thought of. It was very clean and well
furnished. It was quite cool in the quite hot weather we had. David
was the perfect host, helping us with ideas of how to get the best out
of the area, lots of which we would never have done on our own. We
loved the pool and the little terrace of our own at the back of the
Gite. The BBQ areas & terraces were great. The children loved it
and would still be there if they had their way! I would not hesitate to
recommend the property to others. It is a great base to explore the
Dordogne/Lot area, but you do need a car. The little village nearby has
got most things, if you want a really lazy time. The bigger town at
the bottom of the hill has larger supermarkets, restaurants etc. We
enjoyed swimming and canoeing in the river. If a really great
restaurant was within walking distance, it would have been perfect!!
Idyllic Holiday Setting

The house, location and our obliging friendly host, David, made our
holiday in Lot one of the best we have had in France (and we have had
many). A superbly refurbished country house with authentic furnishings
and fittings set in an idyllic countryside setting . David has worked
hard to create and preserve the splendid setting – great pool, several
outdoor dining areas and a relaxing rural environment.
The house was immaculate with everything you need. We were a group
of two couples and two singles so the four bedrooms and four bathrooms
worked wonderfully well along with the two large living areas. Mind you
the weather was so hot we hardly needed to use the living room.
Located very close to several highlights of the Lot and Dordogne, a
couple of minutes to the local shops yet situated in a beautiful rural
setting. David is very knowledgeable about the area and recommended some
good restaurants and sightseeing destinations.
I would thoroughly recommend this property and would love to return to stay here.

David is a great host and we loved the accomodation. we are going
back for our third year. its a great base to see some of the best
attractions of the dordogne and the lot. I have quite a stressful job
and this is the only place ive been able to go where i can completely
switch off and relax. We tried his "enchanting tour" where he is your
guide to some of the areas top sites and restaurants. If you sign up
for the enchanting tour you wont need a car. Having never been to the
area it was a great way of getting a feel for the area. You'll love it.
The accomodation is of the rustic french style which we love (not the
clinical modern variety). Loads of character.
Another planet

In the summer of 2010 I stayed with my family a week in the
2-bedroom gite in Pouliac. It was great! The moment we turned the car
through a narrow gate onto the property, we entered another planet:
quiet, beautiful, relaxing and very, very hospitable! Clearly the nice
weather, the interesting area, the swimming pool, the cosy cottage and
the bbq's were important elements that made our stay wonderful, but the
most special element on this planet is the host, David. From welcoming
to goodbye he was always available for advice (where to shop, which
sites to see, where to raft, etc), and with his natural way of
entertaining he made us feel home from the very first minute.
After returning to our Dutch 'base' my two sons (12 and 15) still
talk with much enthousiasm about David's planet and will be the first
volunteers for a next visit!
Wonderful property is a beautiful location

Mike and I stayed at this wonderful gite in early September. We were
incredibly lucky a) to choose it and b) to go when the weather was
absolutely gorgeous.David, the host, could not have been more welcoming
and knowledgeable about the area (in the Lot region, but really close to
the Dordogne). Following his advice we discovered the some of gems of
the region including Sarlat, Rocamador and possibly most beautiful of
all, Cirque Lapopie.
The property itself was charming, spotless, comfortable with
everything on hand to make self catering stress free.It really is
undersold in the listing. The only thing we were short of was time -
longer would have been better! We loved the pool, the bbq area and the
peaceful location - disturbed only occassionally by the donkeys at
feeding time! Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would we go back?
Absolutely.
Friendly, relaxed and beautiful.....

Plenty to do for adults and children all within a short drive and
good quality restaurants in Souillac with lots of gastronomic choice.
Its even possible to have fairly full day of activity, swimming, table
tennis, boules and a visit to the donkeys (our favorite was Winston) at
La Carriere. We were never stuck for choice about what to do.
Dave provides a friendly but not intrusive presence and is full of
tips about interesting places to visit and the things to do. The Gite
was well maintained and spotlessly clean with a good stock of equipment
and those little extras that make the place feel homely and welcoming.
Absolutely no hesitation in recommending the place to others.
You may not want to leave

We booked a 2 bedroom gite at the last minute and enyoyed everything
about our stay. David really was the perfect host.He gave us good tips
and directions to all the places that we wanted to visit, even
suggesting local restaurants. David has worked tirelessley to create
wonderful comfortable accomodation and he has certainly achieved it
here. Our Gite was extremely spacious and was fully equipped with
everthing that we could have wanted, a lovely swimming pool and all
surrounded by wonderful countryside.
We found plenty to do in the vicinty, the caves at Padirac,
Rocamadour, and Sarlat all within easy driving distance. We had planned
to stay only 4 nights, but extended our stay to a week as we really
didnt want to leave. I would certainly have no hesitation in
recommending this to anyone.
Absolutely 'cracking' place!

We (2 couples, early 30's) stayed at La Carriere and it was
fantastic - a perfect getaway. Great location, brilliant activities to
do very nearby or if, like us, you just want to chill out you couldn't
get a better place!
Our holiday was filled with great food & wine from the local
village, lounging by the pool at the gite, feeding the donkeys, followed
by award-winning BBQ's (!) in the evenings and a mean game of Boules!
The cottage was also really lovely - finished to a really high
standard, so if you were a little unlucky with the weather, you won't
mind spending time in the cottage.
Really was great - and would highly recommend it!

Holiday cottage at La Carrière

Our first impression on arrival at La Carrière was that the cottages
were all we had been hoping for, and more. The houses are stunning, the
grounds beautiful and the setting idyllic. I have to say that David's
description of the fixtures and fittings, and the photographs on the
website are not entirely accurate - they didn't give us any real idea of
the quality and style of everything we found in the property : from the
bedlinen to the kitchen knives, everything is top of the range, and
supplied in more than adequate numbers for a family group of 11 like
ours. I have stayed in many types of holiday accommodation, and have
NEVER found one so well-equipped, well-maintained and luxuriously
furnished as this one. There is even a full-size, proper clothes line
for your laundry - a huge benefit when you are holidaying with children,
and it is this attention to detail which ensures that guests feel
genuinely "at home", and are able to relax and enjoy the extensive
facilities on offer.
The grounds are beautiful, and full of unexpected delights which our
smaller guests took great delight in exploring, the pool is
magnificent, and cleaned EVERY DAY to ensure that it always looks at its
best, the games provided are a great feature to keep younger guests
amused, and the security of the property ensures that parents can relax
and let the children play where they want without concern.
On the rare occasions when you might be tempted to leave the
cottages for the day, the only problem is deciding which of the hundreds
of attractions in the area you would like to visit There is literally
something for everyone, from treetop adventure parks and water parks for
the children, to canoeing and other water sports for the more
energetic, and historic or cultural attractions for the less
adventurous:- you are completely spoilt for choice.
La Carrière is easy to get to, by air or by road, and is very
conveniently located for visiting all the major attractions in this
beautiful and historic corner of France.
The major selling point however, is the dedication of David, the
owner, to ensuring that all his guests have the best possible holiday in
the home in which he has invested so much thought and care :- nothing
is too much trouble, information and advice is readily available, and
the welcome is as warm as a hug from your Mum!
Would I recommend La Carrière? Yes - without hesitation, for all kinds of visitors, young or old, whatever their interests.
Happy days in La Carriere

We are a mixed family group aged from eight years to eighty, and we
spent two truly wonderful weeks in La Carriere in early July. First
impressions are so important, and David's warm welcome on the day of our
arrival set the mood for the duration of our stay. The property is
extremely comfortable, very well equipped, and maintained to a very high
standard, it definately lives up to the description on the web site, if
anything its even nicer.
There is lots of green space, a beautiful pool, and three gorgeous
donkeys who will polish off all your stale bread. The boys loved the
tabletennis, badminton and we all played boules at night.
La Carriere is well situated for touring both the Lot and Dordogne
regions, there is so much to see and do. Rocamadour, Sarlat, Canoeing
on the river, and lots of fantastic chateaux are all within a 40min
drive.
There is no shortage of really good restaurants nearby, we
particularly liked la Chastrusse, recommended to us by David which was
about ten minutes away by car. For your daily bread Payrac, about 5
minutes away had a lovely bakery, and a small shop. Souillac about 15
min drive has several large supermarkets.
To get to La Carriere, there is a choice of three airports, and a good road network.
This is a great place to spend your holidays, we really loved it,
and were sorry to leave. David is a great host and we wish him every
success.
Aangenaam verrast !
